Special Events
The motto for the City of Howell is "Every Day is an Event." There are many events in town throughout the year including "Rock the Block" events with food and entertainment in the Central Business District. Other events include "Ladies Night Out" and Food Truck Rally's. Below are the largest events of the year. The department coordinates all security and traffic matters for each event.
Michigan Challenge Balloon Festival
Balloon Fest, which occurs each June and brings up to 100,000 people to town over the course of the weekend, is the largest event of the year. Visitors can enjoy the large number of hot air balloons launching, a balloon glow, fireworks, a carnival, craft show, and entertainment.
Howell Melon Festival
Melon Fest is another weekend long event that takes place each August. The event features a parade, Melon Run 5k, a festival/event tent, entertainment, and a large vendor showcase along Grand River.
Fantasy of Lights Parade
The Fantasy of Lights Parade is a nighttime parade that takes place annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The parade kicks off the holiday season and features floats from local business and organizations, as well as Santa himself. Along with the parade, citizens can enjoy food, entertainment, and activities for the evening. The event draws approximately 40,000 people a year.
